What Is Silk, and What Types Exist?
Silk is a natural fiber produced by the silkworm. 

The most prized type is mulberry silk — this is what’s used in premium sleep masks. It’s soft, smooth, glossy, and very gentle on the skin.

There’s also eri silk (also known as peace silk) — slightly rougher in texture, but still natural.

Another type is muga silk, a wild silk from the Assam region, known for its more textured and unique look.

What Do the Studies Say?
In 2023, researchers from Cardiff University studied the effects of sleep masks.
They found that even without increasing sleep duration, people experienced better rest, improved memory, and sharper focus the next day.

In hospital settings, masks also helped reduce daytime sleepiness and anxiety by normalizing cortisol levels.

So... Is It Worth It?
A silk sleep mask won’t cure insomnia. It’s not magic — it’s a tool.
